Albert Grossenbacher started the Optima brand in Biel in 1923 to produce Swiss timepieces with automated mechanisms. All parts and watches were created in-house, and the company gained a high reputation, eventually joining Ebauches SA, a Swiss watch group founded in 1926, as one of 27 manufacturers.
Optima uses layers of different materials to create a subtle relief impression on the watch dial.
